Bon nombre d\u2019entre eux sont li\u00e9s \u00e0 l\u2019utilisation d\u2019herbicides \u00e0 base de glyphosate dans les monocultures. Les chiffres r\u00e9els pourraient \u00eatre bien plus \u00e9lev\u00e9s. Les \u00e9tiquettes des produits alimentaires se gardent bien de r\u00e9v\u00e9ler que ces \u00e9normes monocultures appauvrissent les sols en les d\u00e9pouillant de leurs \u00e9l\u00e9ments nutritifs et en affaiblissant leur capacit\u00e9 \u00e0 assurer une croissance v\u00e9g\u00e9tale saine. Surexploit\u00e9e et \u00e9puis\u00e9e, la terre doit \u00eatre continuellement bombard\u00e9e d\u2019engrais chimiques et de pesticides pour que les rendements restent \u00e9lev\u00e9s.<\/p>\n

La forte d\u00e9pendance des monocultures \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9gard de ces produits agrochimiques toxiques ne d\u00e9t\u00e9riore pas seulement les terres et les cultures.\u202fCes substances polluent \u00e9galement l\u2019air que nous respirons, elles s\u2019infiltrent dans le sol, contaminent l\u2019eau que nous buvons et empoisonnent les nappes phr\u00e9atiques, les ruisseaux, les lacs et les rivi\u00e8res d\u2019o\u00f9 provient notre nourriture.<\/p>\n

Ces m\u00eames masses d\u2019eau sont aussi \u00e9puis\u00e9es par l\u2019irrigation de monocultures assoiff\u00e9es, cultiv\u00e9es sur des terres dont la couche sup\u00e9rieure n\u00e9cessaire \u00e0 la r\u00e9tention de l\u2019eau est d\u00e9truite par le travail m\u00e9canique du sol. Des \u00e9cosyst\u00e8mes fragiles, comme les zones humides, qui abritent un large \u00e9ventail d\u2019esp\u00e8ces animales et v\u00e9g\u00e9tales dont la survie d\u00e9pend des plans d\u2019eau, sont ainsi menac\u00e9s.<\/p>\n

Les personnes qui travaillent dans ces plantations, leurs familles et les communaut\u00e9s locales sont \u00e9galement appauvries, exploit\u00e9es et mises en danger par ce syst\u00e8me alimentaire en raison de leur forte exposition aux agrotoxiques qu\u2019utilise l\u2019agriculture industrielle.<\/p>\n

Par exemple, au Br\u00e9sil, l\u2019\u00e9pandage de pesticides sur des millions d\u2019hectares de terres principalement d\u00e9di\u00e9es aux monocultures (comme le soja) a d\u00e9bouch\u00e9 sur de nombreux d\u00e9c\u00e8s et cas de maladies.<\/p>\n
